The 4th Street Festival (FSF) was created in 1977 by Bloomington, Indiana area artists and craftspeople to showcase southern Indiana talent. Since then, the fair has grown to include artists from all over the country. Today, the FSF is an artist-organized, admission-free, wheelchair accessible, cultural event held each Labor Day weekend in the heart of the Festival District of BEAD (Bloomington Entertainment and Arts Districts). FSF recruits high caliber artists from all over the United States and Canada, and the event has achieved local, regional and national acclaim. The Artfair Sourcebook, 2013, ranks it in the top 50 shows in the United States. The art fair experience is enhanced with live musical entertainment, hands-on art creation for children and adults, a spoken word stage with “poetry on demand”, interactive installation art, and informative booths presented by local, not-for-profit, arts-oriented organizations.
