Bloomington Arts Directory

Welcome to the Bloomington Arts Directory! We are the local Arts Directory serving the Greater Bloomington area, where

  • Artists of all genres get connected with patrons (members are highlighted on top);

  • Patrons looking for teachers, musical performers, photographers, entertainers, or a painting that fits a certain décor, and more;

  • Organizations get connected to patrons as well as artists looking to join your group, participate or volunteer.

Marketing yourself through the directory

The directory is a tool for you to market yourself to patrons, galleries and other venues, as well as other artists.

It is good practice for you to include information about how you work, what your philosophy is, the kind variety of work you produce. All information you enter will be shown in your directory entry and will be how you are represented to the public.

If you do commissions or offer lessons and anything else, that will help the reader connect with you.

Remember, the user can enter any search term when they search. For example, if you are a painter, you should be explicit if you are a water colorist, acrylic, oil, encaustic and whether the work is realist, impressionist, abstract or any combination.

Or if you are a  performance artist, tell the reader the size of your group, the range of performance types, and any other relevant information.

In all cases, be sure to announce galleries where you work can be seen, and performances that are coming up (you can add links to your website or social media platforms you use). Also be sure to note if you offer instruction or take commissions.

Finally, add images of your work so readers can see examples.  The directory cannot yet take videos of performances, but you can add stills of a performance and links to one or more videos on your website or on Youtube.

Tell your story and the story of your work.   You might look at other artists in your field — artists well known nationally as well as well know local artists — and see how they represent themselves.

You need NOT do the entry all at once — Do a draft — perhaps in a word processor  — and think about it for a day.  Once you do enter your information, you can look see how it looks in the directory (it may take a bit before it is visible)  and edit any part of it. You can always edit your entry after you submitted them.
